Anuenue Cafe Poipu Kauai
It’s 0610 when Judy and I of
www.soulmatestraveling.com pull into a parking space at the back of the Poipu shopping center. Our target is the Anuenue Cafe. Why so early? My research to date suggests that while only open for a couple of years this breakfast establishment commands significant demand. My thoughts are this is around more peak breakfast times eg. After 0700 local time. So Judy and I decide to make an early breakfast date of it. We ordered the seasonal fruit bowl to share
(fresh papaya, pineapple, and strawberry) and then a couple of Benedict’s. The Anuenue Benedict tomato zesty jam and bacon) for Judy and the Riptide (Kolua pork) for me.
“Wow this is really good” Judy, a Benedict officianado commented. “The tomato zesty jam adds a special tartness” she said.
While the Kolua pork added a robustness to my breakfast it didn’t have the benefit of a “ …special tartness…”. What did standout in both of our selections was that the eggs were sunny side up rather than poached. I found this as surprising/non-traditional. Despite this we concurred that the result while unusual was acceptable. Personally, poached would have been better.
So I can vouch for an early breakfast with the sun starting to lighten the sky and waken Kauai’s songbirds during a fully acceptable start to our day.
